About the Role
Surgical technologists are essential members of the operating room team who provide surgical care to patients under the supervision of the surgeon or circulating RN. They prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies for invasive procedures. Surgical technologists facilitate the safe and effective conduct of surgeries by ensuring the operating room environment is secure, equipment is functioning properly, and all necessary supplies are readily available. During procedures, they anticipate the needs of the surgeon by passing sterile instruments and providing required supplies. This role demands excellent knowledge of surgical protocols, sterile and aseptic technique, and familiarity with surgical instrumentation and supplies.
Job Requirements
Experience in a surgical or procedural area
Ability to take surgical call
Ability to stand for long periods, remaining alert and attentive
Able to lift 25 pounds
Ability to withstand extreme temperatures
Exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue specimens, and odors
Skills
Deep understanding of sterile and aseptic technique
Knowledge of surgical instruments and supplies
Strong teamwork and communication to ensure seamless procedures
Ability to anticipate the surgeon’s needs during operations
Commitment to maintaining a safe, compliant, and efficient operating room environment
