Job Summary:
Homeboy Industries is actively exploring acquiring an auto repair shop. We are looking for a mission-driven senior mechanic to join this endeavor. In this role, you will be the primary mechanic as we open our own operations. You’ll be the lead tech from day one, with the opportunity to shape workflow, equipment standards, and eventually mentor junior mechanics from within our training program.
Responsibilities:
  • Perform advanced diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance across all major systems (engine, suspension, electrical, drivability, brakes, etc.)
  • Interface directly with customers—writing estimates, explaining repairs, and managing approvals in the absence of the shop manager.
  • Verify all repairs meet high standards of safety, performance, and customer expectations
  • Assist with parts ordering and inventory tracking
  • Maintain an organized and neat bay area
  • Effectively communicate the timeline of repair and maintenance with the customer and shop management
  • Collaborate with the shop manager to set a culture of excellence, honesty, and teamwork
  • Document repairs accurately, in accordance with regulations and standards
  • Establish and maintain strong positive relationships and loyalty with customers to encourage repeat and referral business, cultivating long-term clientele
  • Provide m entorship to future apprentices and trainee mechanics
  • Stay current with the latest technologies and repair techniques
Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of experience
  • Comfortable performing both diagnostics and customer-facing service writing
  • Must bring your own tools
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • ASE Certifications preferred
Compensation:
$30-$40/hr base wage, depending on experience, with bonus potential for performance
Two weeks annual vacation (including sick leave)
