Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Paleontologist with a minimum of one year of fieldwork experience in paleontology. The ideal candidate will have experience in construction monitoring and possess a Bachelor's Degree in Paleontology, Geology, Biology, or a related field.
Responsibilities
+ Monitor construction sites to ensure the identification and protection of fossils during the construction process.
+ Perform on-site construction monitoring for the entire duration of projects.
+ Fill out data logs regularly and potentially engage in report writing.
+ Stop work if fossils are discovered during projects to assess and document findings.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's or Master's degree in Paleontology, Geology, Biology, or a similar field that includes education and field training in paleontology and sedimentary geology.
+ Minimum of 1 year of experience in paleontology mitigation.
+ Ability to travel based on project locations.
+ Capability to work independently in various field environments, including remote wilderness and urban settings.
+ Willingness to work night shifts from 8 PM to 4 AM.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Previous paleontological construction monitoring experience is desirable, but training will be provided if not.
+ Extensive field experience in paleontology and sedimentary geology can substitute for academic training.
+ Willingness to travel long distances and participate in lengthy construction monitoring projects.
+ Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Work Environment
The work environment varies greatly depending on the project type, ranging from backpacking into remote wilderness areas to working on construction sites in downtown locations. The culture is professional, with a focus on independence and hard work. You will be part of a large team during construction monitoring, although you may be the only employee from the company on-site. The work schedule can include both day and night shifts, with day shifts running from 6 AM to 5 PM and night shifts from 8 PM to 2 AM. The schedule is flexible and may include weekend work depending on project demands, terrain, and weather conditions.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.50 - $32.00/hr.
