Orthodontic Dental Assistant Part-time
Location: Indian Health Service (IHS). Albuquerque, NM 87120
Pay Rate: $28-30 per hour
Schedule: This is a part-time position, and the contractor shall be scheduled to work 27 hours per week, during the hours of 7:30 am to 12:30 pm and 1:15 pm to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
Contract Length: 1 year with the option to extend
Benefits: $5.09 per hour for health & Welfare, 10 PTO, 11 paid holidays
Job Description:
The Orthodontic Dental Assistant provides chairside and clinical support for orthodontic services within an IHS dental clinic. The role supports efficient patient care delivery, accurate documentation, and high-quality orthodontic treatment in compliance with IHS, AAAHC, and CMS standards.
Requirements:
One year of experience as a Dental Assistant.
Graduation from a dental assistant training school or proof of on-the-job training.
BLS Certification: Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Responsibilities:
Prepare patients and operatory areas for orthodontic procedures and treatments
Assist with routine orthodontic adjustments, appliance placement, and debonding procedures
Acquire, process, and upload orthodontic records, including impressions, models, photographs, and radiographs
Perform banding procedures, appliance preparation, and assistance with specialty orthodontic devices
Operate dental x-ray equipment and manage digital radiographic records
Document patient encounters accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
Assist with orthodontic case presentations for patients and families
Prepare fixed retainers and support orthodontist during cementation procedures
