Job Summary

  • Transcribes correspondence and documents from digital audio files dictated by attorneys.
  • Prepares legal papers using fill-in forms published by the New York Workers Compensation Board (
  • Corresponds with clients, witnesses, attorney offices, and WCB via telephone, mail and email.

General Accountabilities

  • Prepare and process legal documents and papers, such as pre-hearing conference statements, appeals, rebuttals, memoranda, subpoenas, and settlement agreements.
  • Accurately transcribe dictation created and uploaded by attorneys.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Meet deadlines set by laws, judges, clients and attorneys.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively via phone, fax, and email.
  • Enter data in firm case management software.
  • Enter billing information into firm billing software.
  • Organize and maintain law library, documents, and case files.
  • Schedule appointments.
  • Make photocopies of correspondence, documents, and other printed matter.
  • Assist attorneys in collecting information.
  • Drafts and transcribes office memos.
  • Treat all with courtesy and respect.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Legal Assistant or similar role is preferred
  • Certification or diploma as a Legal Assistant is preferred
  • Familiarity with legal procedures, terminology, and the court system
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organized with document management experience
  • Comfortable Microsoft Office and case management software
  • Ability to multitask and work well under pressure
