Director of Corrections & Rehabilitation - Kansas City, MO (Direct Hire)

Salary: $12,389-$27,500/month | Location: Kansas City, MO | Remote: No (residency required within 9 months)

About the Role:
The City of Kansas City, Missouri, is seeking an experienced Director of Corrections & Rehabilitation to lead the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCR). This executive role oversees operations, staffing, fiscal management, and strategic planning for all correctional and rehabilitative facilities, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead a multidisciplinary department, supervising senior staff and all correctional, medical, and rehabilitative operations.
• Develop and implement policies, strategic initiatives, and performance goals aligned with public safety objectives.
• Ensure compliance with ACA, NCCHC, and Missouri Jail Standards .
• Integrate behavioral health, medical, and substance use disorder programs within facilities.
• Collaborate with municipal agencies, courts, law enforcement, and community partners to support reentry, rehabilitation, and alternatives to incarceration.
• Oversee department budgets, workforce planning, recruitment, and training.
• Serve as DOCR spokesperson for city leadership, media, and the community.

Qualifications:

• Experience: 10+ years in correctional administration, law enforcement, or public-sector leadership; minimum 5 years in senior executive roles.
• Proven ability to manage large multidisciplinary teams and integrate healthcare programs into correctional operations.
• Strong knowledge of Strategic Inmate Management (SIM), correctional operations, and regulatory compliance .
• Education: Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, public administration, leadership, or related field; graduate degree preferred.
• Must pass a comprehensive background check, psychological exam, and drug screening; a valid driver's license is required.
